  • How Does a Book Become a Play?

    Words cannot express what you have just given my Pre-K students. I am so thankful that you have chosen to invest in the growth of our classroom. As I think about the joyful look on my students faces as they see one of their first plays, I remember how it felt as a child watching one of my favorite stories (Peter Pan) unfold on stage.   • Get Fire-d Up about Reading!

    I can not thank you enough for what you have done to help us improve our classroom experience. My students have absolutely loved using the kindles in the classroom. So far they have used the listening center to read books, play Kahoot quiz games, and QR coded games during their time in class. My students are learning how to use technology as a tool in building their education while having fun.

    The addition of our new technology has also sparked new topics of networking for me with the teachers in my community. I have learned of many apps that we plan to add to the Kindles, one app, Seesaw, allows the students to document classroom activities and projects via a photo/video journal that can be viewed by their parents/guardians. Within a week of introducing the app to my students they began asking to document their activities without being prompted!

    All of the students in my classroom have benefited from the introduction of the Kindles. We are so extremely grateful for your donations and belief in our classroom!”

Students will be able to use a QR code app on the Kindle Fire to scan the code on any book in the listening library to be directed to a reading of that story. Living in a 21st century world means that many of the experiences we once had using radios, cassette tapes and even CDs have all transitioned to digital media players such as tablets. My goal is to bring my classroom's listening center into the 21st century by adding Kindle Fires and QR code labels. Listening centers allow students to follow along with books learning word direction, connect spoken words to written words, voice inflection, punctuation and an appreciation of books. Through the use of coded book recordings family members, older students or the Pre-K students in my classroom will be encouraged to participate in the recordings. Giving the Pre-K students even more incentive to utilize the listening center. What will we do with the Kindle Fires during times of the day other than free choice center times, you ask. We will use the tablets for App smashing, book creating, green screen projects, coding with PBS apps, playing Kahoot class made games, Scholastic: Clifford's My Big World readings, and the list goes on! We would love for you to help us build skills that will help us be successful in the 21st century.
