Reading is Fun!
Funded Aug 26, 2019My students have been enthusiastically reading each magazine as soon as we receive them. They absolutely look forward to getting a new one each week and love that it is part of their homework. Reading for homework isn't boring and they are excited about being able to keep these magazines with them. They refer back to their magazines when they need something to read and they are learning so many interesting things. We use the magazines in class for some fun or in small groups with the help of the teacher resources. I was able to review sequencing with informational text with one of their Super Science Magazines and the students had fun, while learning about animal migration. The magazines tie in so well with other curricular activities in the classroom. I am so happy that my students are learning to love reading. This amazing donation has been such a positive impact for our classroom. Thank you so much!”

Funded Oct 17, 2018We have been truly taking advantage of our new sitting. The students are thrilled to be able to work standing up during some moments in class. In addition, my students who have been diagnosed with ADD seem to be able to focus more on their classwork when they are sitting in our bouncy chairs.
When the seats where first brought into the class the students didn't really think this could help them. Now that we have had a chance to have them for a while, they can't wait to actually have a chance at using them since we don't have a lot of them. Since I can see what a positive impact this has had with my students, I will definitely be creating another project to gain more seats for my classroom.
In addition to the seats, we are also using our portable desks. This definitely gives the students a break from sitting the whole day. The portable desks are passed around the class depending on what students feel the need to stand up. These new flexible seats and portable desks have truly helped me support the needs of many of our students and I am so grateful for your donation. I have had students tell me that they feel they can focus more during tests when they use our flexible seating arrangements. This has truly been a great addition into my classroom.”

Funded Aug 23, 2018First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating towards my project and my students. This project has brought a new meaning of reading into my classroom. In my school many of my students aren't able to purchase things such as book or even magazines directed to increase their reading and knowledge. I have been using Time for Kids as my reading homework and I don't have any issues with my students not wanting to do this. They look forward to each week and the new magazine we receive.
Many of my students have decided to keep all the magazines they are receiving in order to save them for the summer when they know they won't get any more. In addition to my students, the parents are so thankful for this opportunity that their children have been given. The topics covered in the magazine correlates so well to whats going on around my students or even whats going on in other subjects in school. For example, I have found that the article even has skills that we are working on such as finding the main idea and details or sequencing.
My biggest challenge is getting students who have developed a fixed mindset in regards to reading. Such as, it's too hard or too boring to read. With the help of Time for Kids there has been a wave of change in my classroom. I have students who look forward to reading and who understand the joy some have always felt in regards to reading a good article. The articles teach them things they didn't know about or things that really grab their attention. This is the best thing that I bring into my classroom that thankfully for donors such as you, I am capable of offering to my students!”

Funded Dec 20, 2017We have been so lucky to have had our project funded. In our class we have been using our Scholastic magazines to make reading fun. And it truly has been FUN! These magazines are filled with so many interesting passages that captures my students attention. My students look forward to completing the skill worksheets assigned to each magazine and look forward to watching the videos also. Parents are so impressed by these magazines and how I attained them. As a teacher I have been inspired with Donors Choose and have recommend it to fellow teachers. Thank you so much for funding our project and helping my students discover that reading is fun!”
