Giving my students quality reading materials will help them be better readers, more creative thinkers, and more knowledgable about our world. We have chosen these specific books as the tools they will use to gain better reading fluency, better understanding of what they are reading and increase their vocabulary. Books that offer historical reference within the context of a fictional story inspire readers to seek out other materials that reflect similar historical events and people to read about. Stories such as these are especially attuned to assessing students skills in reading, grammar, fluency and understanding. They also allow teachers to design lessons that will test students writing skills.
