Kindergartners are naturally curious about the world around them. In order to encourage this curiosity and increase student thinking, vocabulary and build knowledge, it is important for students to have hands-on opportunities to explore and learn about the world around them. There is nothing more relevant to a five-year old than to learn about those things which engage their curiosities and wonders. Developing Curiosity Corners in the classroom will help students to learn content concepts, develop foundational literacy skills, apply science and math learning and make learning relevant to a 5 year old. Students will develop observation skills, interact with others, expand their minds, explore their wonders and ignite their imaginations through engaging activities and materials in our Curiosity Corners. We would use the costumes of a pilot, astronaut and mail carrier to help student's become this community helper. We would make their imagination come to life by using authentic tools with the pet vet center, hammering kit, pretend restaurant writing box, and the blocks and blueprints kit. The more students can interact with these materials the more they become curious and engage in their learning!
Helping students become explorers of the world around them lays the groundwork for innovative thinkers who will change the world. Children can explore the arts and STEM behind the work of a construction worker through the hands-on activities by using the Don't Lose Your Marbles STEM learning kit, the ramp and balls set and the hammering kit. These activities will lead to our student's making predictions, creating experiments, and sharing their findings with others. Learning will become contagious!
