  • STEAMing Through Biology with Mrs. Lyn

    Funded Oct 4, 2019

Thank you so much for helping us reach our goal and acquire the resources for our project!!! When the students heard I wanted to get them the resources, they were apprehensive that we would get them. I told them all the things we would be able to use the Cricut for and they got excited. After posting the project, they continued to ask me about the status, and I told the students to be patient.

Not quite a week after posting the project was funded! When I told the students we would receive our materials, they were so excited; and elated when the resources were "hand delivered" to our door by an office aide. We immediately opened the boxes and I was able to capture their faces. It was priceless.

We have been fervently searching YouTube, Pinterest and other forms of social media to get designs and downloads to begin our projects for our next units in Biology. Evolution, plants, and the human body will provide us with maximum opportunities to create. Thanks so much for your love of public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lyn

  • Robots+Apps=Future Coders

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

I am so forever grateful to your contribution to my Project "Robots+Apps=Future Coders". My students were so excited when we "un-boxed" our materials, and made it such a fun experience that I HAD to capture the moments. We have since used the tablets for recording devices for our various sensors and probes. When we made S'mores in our shoebox solar ovens, along with measuring the temperature with a heat gun, some students used our climate sensors to not only record the data in real time, but to also see a line graph of the time vs temp.

The materials we have received will be used for so much, and the burden of having to purchase them was lifted with your donation.

Thanks for all that you do for public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lyn

As a Pre-AICE Cambridge Science class the focus is more and more on technology. My students always want to challenge the real-life application of what we are learning, and the Sphero Mini Robot Balls in various colors will show the students how interactive and relevant science can be. The Fire and iPad tablets will provide the students with a device when needed, especially when I challenge each group to code and design an obstacle course for their Sphero Mini robot balls to breeze through. "The engineering design process is a series of steps that engineers follow when they are trying to solve a problem and design a solution for something; it is a methodical approach to problem solving." These materials will assist my students in systematically solving a problem, encountering an obstacle, and re-designing their solution, all while working collaboratively with people from varying walks of life. I want to incorporate the Engineering Design Process more and more into the district curriculum, while focusing on how technology is more than just social media. Using the iPad, I want the students, to record the steps of the process along the way, and create and edit the video to incorporate the "Art" aspect of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math). My students will also get the opportunity to build circuits both in series and parallel, and explore and demonstrate the components of electricity. The multimeters, batteries and wire cutters/strippers will help the students when we do electrical builds. I want the students to understand the power of electricity and increase their autonomy when it comes to breaking down the aspects of electricity. The Multimeter will allow the students to check to voltage, while the batteries act as an chemical energy source.
