I strongly believe that using fake money to learn, in a tangible way, about budgeting, income, and taxes is the most effective to show students the realities of adult life. I have tried using budget sheets but, since they do not have concrete money or bank accounts, the project has not been successful. My students have been asking since our first day back for physical money. This project requests nine Nasco Complete Bills sets for Grades K-4. Having physical money from these kits will let students see how they need to budget for this class. Students can earn money for attendance and good behavior, spend it on perks, and have it taxed, based on behavior. It is also a visual reminder of what they lose if they are on their phones or are late to class. This reward system also gives them the ability to buy privileges in the classroom, like food or drink. These bill sets will not only my students good money skills. like budgeting, taxes, and income, but also about responsibility and accountability. This will help them beyond school and into the workforce.
