As a recently new second grade teacher, I am privileged to be working and teaching 24 amazing students. My school is currently a Title 1 school. This means that 80% are classified as economically disadvantaged and 96% are considered "at risk".My class consists of a variety of students including ESL(English as a Second Language) learners as well as students with Autism. My students are hardworking even those who come from a lower socioeconomic class and have to face daily struggles that children their age shouldn't have to. Unfortunately, working in an inner-city school can limit a teacher's resources.Being able to have the option, like Donors Choose where I can explore a huge range of effective teaching materials is something that I do not take for granted. I am very grateful that I can expand on my teaching resources as a way to not only meet the needs of my students but to challenge them as well.
