The diversity of my students makes it great. However, on the flip side of that, it is difficult to have everything we need to provide appropriate modifications and accommodations for our students. For example, this year I have a student that has an extensive sensory diet. We need new weighted material to provide some of his needs. Using TheraBand for resistance stretching will also add to our sensory supplies. Several of my students have physical disabilities that limit their ability to participate in general education PE. Knowing the importance of physical activity, we provide a number of activities for them. The colorful parachute will provide multiple opportunities for some safe and appropriate physical exercise. Pencils and index cards are like candy in my room. They disappear! No matter how many I have for the students I always need more. My 6th grade group comes with four BIPs. After many trials and errors, we have discovered that working for FUN FRIDAY once a month is a huge incentive and keeps behaviors manageable. Having some new educational games and a working Samsung DVD/Blu-ray player to play school appropriate movies will be helpful with this endeavor. My students are very gracious. They love that we are clever and can “make” some pretty creative things to help them. However, there is only so much we can do. These items are all things we just need to do what is best for our students. I do need a little bit of this and a little bit of that!
