Floor games provide a different mode of “practice” and will engage all of my Pre-K students, especially the low performing and underachieving students, by incorporating movement in the classroom. This movement helps to transfer new information from one side of the brain to the other and improves their ability to grasp new content. By donating to my project, you will not only help to include movement in my classroom, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement! Floor games replace the use of pencils and crayons with a different “practice” tool (i.e. bean bag, ball, jump, etc.) and increases students’ levels of interest and engagement. The Velcro will allow me to make game grids such as Tic Tac Toe, a 10 frame, or hopscotch on the floor in the classroom. With the blank SitSpots, I can make the 26 letters of the alphabet to incorporate into these floor games for letter recognition, letter sounds or beginning sounds. The numbers will be used for sequence counting and number recognition. I'm also excited to utilize the blank SitSpots and business card holders to create pockets for changing out sight words as we learn them. Floor Games will get my Pre-K students moving and actively learning instead of passively performing and complying!
