The current use of my Chromebooks is for small groups, testing, and rewards. I work in the Baltimore City School System where tensions run high among my students and many of them are not self-motivated to learn. The Chromebooks have help motivate and drive many of my students to do better and learn more. Students who are working on the Chromebooks during small group look forward to their independent learning time. Another set of Chromebooks would be another group and another group of students eager to learn! Testing has switched over from traditional paper to computers. Students are tested periodically throughout the year to see if they're improving. I've found that if a student is absent on that particular day, it is difficult to have them make it up because there is no working technology in the room. Testing on the Chromebook will also help prepare students for taking the PARCC because it is a computer based test. Last year I found many students didn't have basic knowledge to operate a computer. I want to help avoid that this year. Students learn when they are engaged. Giving them another way to engage and learn will only improve their math skills and practices. It'll improve their lives for the better to teach them about responsibility and privilege. Students must be able to show that they can handle, use, and operate the Chromebook effectively and efficiently, which they have been showing me thus far this year.
