Children Find Their Place on the Map!
Funded Dec 1, 2009The map and globe arrived to our classroom a few months ago. The children were really excited. They loved that we had new things in our classroom to learn from. Not only that, when I told them that the map and globe were donated, this inspired them as well. They could not believe that people that we have never met could be so generous. I told them that we would all have to pay it forward by doing kind things for others!
The map came at a great time. Recently we have been hit with sad news due to many natural disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti. The map was extremely helpful at this time. One of my students is Haitian and this meant a lot to her that we were spending the time to locate the country on the map and discuss the earthquake. Just last week I used the globe to help the children prepare for the upcoming state science test. I turned the globe as I taught them about how the earth rotates and revolves around the sun. In literacy we are reading a book called, Number the Stars. This book is a historical fiction book that takes place in Denmark during the time of the Holocaust. We have spent a lot of time looking at the map to see where these horrible events took place.
I would like to thank you for being so generous with your hard earned money. You could have spent it on other things but you chose to spend it on materials to enhance my teaching. You have made me very happy as well as all of my students. The children that I teach deserve the best because they work very hard. If you met them you would see how they absorb so much, their brains are like sponges! My students mean a lot to me and I feel really blessed that people like you are alive. Again, thank you for your donation!!”
