Literacy based therapy is excellent for targeting the individual needs of each student in a group at one time. We need an assortment of new and engaging books to support the development of their communication skills. Books can be used to teach new vocabulary, cause and effect, inferencing and narrative skills, and comparing and contrasting. They can be used to develop students' skills in responding to different question types, describing, and producing longer and grammatically correct sentences. Students who stutter can practice utilizing fluency strategies while reading aloud or retelling stories, and those with difficulty producing speech sounds can practice their target sounds in more meaningful contexts. Books can also be used to teach social skills to students having difficulty forming relationships and using socially appropriate behavior. My students need new and engaging literature to support the development of their communication skills. My students have little access to quality literature. This collection of books can be adapted to target the needs of my students at all grade levels. These books will help me teach my students the skills they need to be more successful communicators.
