  • Successful Students Continue to Learn!

    Funded Dec 20, 2024

I wanted to say thank you to CFP Foundation and ESPN for all the materials and snacks that you were able to provide to my students! They were really happy about having map pencils to use along with the snacks needed for this semester testing times! They love having the choice of colored pencils to use when they are doing weekly activities. My students really appreciate the support that you gave!

I was able to open a rewards store that they are able to go shopping when they earn reward beads for participating or completing an assignment in class. The students have this incentive which supports them being successful in class.

Truly, my students are grateful and supported with the donations that they received. They could not believe that someone would give so much. I know we will run out of snacks before the end of year, but the students make sure that they are not eating but one a day to help them last! Thank you so much for giving to students that truly need the donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Parra

  • A Focused Reading Area

    Funded Jun 28, 2023

Thank you for supporting these students and their reading! The bean bags are not shown, but they have very beneficial to the needs of my students! It has created an environment of relaxation and focus!

My students have been able to explore new variety of books and have a new found adventure. It has been a positive experience.

Adding in the bean bags to this project gave the students a different option other than chairs! All the students take turns with these optional seating. They treat these bags with responsibility and care. Thank you for the support!”

  • Needed Technology!

    Funded Oct 23, 2019

Thank you for the needed technology! As our technology world grows right along side of our school generation, we need to stay updated with the ever changing new devices, applications and techniques in order to support our students. I have learned a lot about technology in the last 4 years while working with insufficient devices. My students and myself wasted educational time to do programs that are mandated by our district on devices that have been refurbished.

The devices that you helped us get, have been a incredible change. As a teacher, the devices have been a dream. For the students, they are easier to navigate and upload things faster. The students are able to stay on task and work with little down time, especially during science and reading time. The students feel more accomplished when working with these devices.

I know that we were only able to get 5 devices for 40 students, but it has already made a huge impact. The students take their turns during the week so that all can get an assignment done! I am hoping to acquire more of these devices to add to my classroom soon now that I have seen the happy faces and changes it has made!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Parra

  • Creating Crochet Magic!

    Funded Dec 21, 2017

Last year I brought crocheting into my classroom as a way to get my students to focus. As I began to teach this art, I realized there was more benefits than just focusing. My students learned how to to be patient and empathetic towards others. One significant skill was learning how to overcome a difficult and frustrating task. Many students are told just breath or that they will get through it. Yet, with the teaching of this very difficult and frustrating task, all students move through these emotions gaining lifetime tools to help them with future challenges. I also realized that crocheting helps those student gain the ability to make mistakes and be able to correct them by redoing their work. It has been a gainful experience for the students as a whole child experience. Thank you for helping me provide this opportunity to my students. It is always great to hear my students ask if they can crochet!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Parra

  • Hands-On with Small Crochet Items!

    Funded Feb 16, 2017

I want to say Thank you to all the wonderful donors that helped my students explore the world of textiles! The students were very excited to get the yarn and the crochet hooks. Every one of the students have learned to crochet and have passed this newly learned craft on to other classes around them. The other teachers have become very interested in this peer lead learning. Our project to crochet an item for Mother's Day has been very successful. As the students thought about what they wanted to make, they also thought about the colors that they could use. The yarns of many colors that were donated by you helped complete their thoughts of love. Included are pictures of the students making their Mother's Day gifts. There is also a picture of some of the gifts that the students have finished.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Parra

I wanted to share a hobby of mine that would help my students continue to grow both mentally and physically. Most of these students would not be able to afford the supplies that are needed to complete a small project without financial support. By providing the crochet hooks and yarn, it puts the focus on the activity and not the out of pocket cost. Giving the students a variety of colored yarn can provide the students with an open pallet. I learned how to crochet in 3rd grade and shared this with my class. Since that time, my students have shown interest in crocheting and began to teach each other. I have as many boys as I have girls, and all the boys have learned how to crochet. Crocheting engages both sides of the brain with focusing and coordination. As the students are sewing, they also share the value of the Vietnamese language within the classroom. With my class being a Dual language environment, communicating in both Vietnamese and English during a more relaxed setting can support every student in their second language. This comfortable environment can also provide a setting for the students to confide in each other about any issues at school or at home. Now that the students know the basic stitches of crochet, I would like to see all the students sew the same project. I thought they could try to sew a pot holder for Valentines Day or Mothers Day. Some of the students have asked if there would be enough yarn to sew a hat or scarf. There are many colors that are very important to the Vietnamese culture and I would like to provide that availability. It is important that all the students feel successful in completing a project.
