Here a Book, There a Book, Everywhere a Book, Book!

Funded Jan 19, 2017

All of our new books have been so warmly welcomed by the minds of my 2nd graders. They were so excited for the books from the moment I told them about the project and their excitement grew once the package arrived. Once I leveled the books and placed them in the library, the students have been so excited to read the new books. Since my library isn't too large, they have read most of the books that were in there so as soon as new books arrived they eagerly attacked them!

During the day they can read at any free moment so they always have these books with them. While I am doing small group instruction, they have what is called center work to complete. One of the activities during that time is Independent Reading where they are able to read anywhere in the classroom. They also have the option during this time to do Buddy Reading where they can read with a friend and discuss the book they are reading. They can also take these books home to read with their family and allow them to have that academic dialogue about books.

My students that are below 2nd grade reading level as well as my students that are above 2nd grade reading level benefit the most from these books. I did not have a lot of books on their level so they reread the same books OR they read books that were either too hard or did not challenge them. I am grateful that these students, the ones who need it the most, can have more of a selection when it comes to reading in the classroom.”

With gratitude,
