Spheros and iPads will bring technology into our STEAM activities and lessons. Programming Spheros is more than just writing code. When we teach about ancient Egypt the Spheros will become the horse that will be able to pull chariots that the students have created and built. In math, we teach the formula d=rt. The students can experience what the formula means by programming the Spheros and making changes to the distance, speed, and duration the Sphero will travel. In science, when we teach about friction the students can experience friction by having the Sphero travel over different materials and analyze the measurement of time. Since the Spheros are waterproof, in art they can draw a design and then put paint on the Sphero and have the Sphero draw their design while they run the program. In addition to programming the Spheros, the iPads will be used through our entire school day. Our school has adopted BYOD which allows our students to bring their own devices to use during class to enrich their educational experience. Unfortunately not all of our students have their own device. Having these iPads available in the classroom will allow more students the opportunity to participate with the use of technology.
