S for Supplies, R for Resources = Student Readiness
Funded Aug 23, 2018Thank you so much for what you have done for our students. The teachers and students are so happy that they will have these items for use throughout the school year. The sheet protectors, used with the dry erase markers, allow us to reuse worksheets that build student fluency while saving paper.
The colored pencils and scissors are used by our students when they are completing projects in their interactive math journals. Also, the students use the pencils and ink pens to solve and grade their math assignments. The pencil sharpener helps me keep the pencils sharpened and ready for use.
I want you to know that your generosity is going to go along way.”

Elevating STEM by Equipping Our Students With Hands-on Math Resources
Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you for providing our students with all of these school supplies and math manipulatives. I was so excited when we received all these items. Our students were also excited once they saw all of the resources. I love to let them open the boxes because it elevates their excitement and appreciation for your generous contribution.
The students use the three-ring binders to organize their school work and class notes. These notebooks will help cultivate their organizational skills. All of the math manipulatives are helping our students gain conceptual understanding of the place value system.
Your generosity towards our students is greatly appreciated! People like you really make me and our students smile.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Crumpler
This classroom project was brought to life by Craig Newmark Philanthropies and 14 other donors.A Math Professional Learning Community Focused on Student Success
Funded Mar 27, 2018The math instructional staff at Lillie C. Evans K-8 Center is so grateful for the donated resources. We are currently using these resources to refine our instructional practices as we prepare our students to meet the cognitive demands of common core mathematics. During our professional learning community meetings, we use the Common Core Mathematics Companion books and Post-it Flags to decode the standards and identify what our student must know and be able to do so that they will able to master the content. Along with the Why Before How: Singapore Math Computation Strategies book, we collaborate as a team to identify best practices for teaching the math standards. Also during our meetings, we use the Post-It chart paper and Sharpie markers to create anchor charts to be used as instructional aides to help "anchor" our students' thinking regarding the skill or content. Our Kindergarten, First and Second grade teachers are using the Common Core: Math in Action, Grades K-2 to identify hands-on instructional activities for their math stations. Lastly, the Officewerks 3-ring binders provide storage for our meeting handouts and notes, student performance data and lesson plans.
As we share and implement best practices in mathematics instruction, our students' performance on standards-based unit tests has consistently improved over last year. By having a comprehensive understanding of the common core mathematics standards and how to teach them, we have and will continue to help our students master the common core mathematics content. Thanks again and we are eternally grateful to you for your kindness and support.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple and 2 other donors.Welcome Aboard Math Station Rotation!
Funded Oct 23, 2017Your generous donation has been put to great use in building our students' math and higher-order thinking skills. When I walked into each classroom to deliver the math games and resources, the students let out a collective cheer. They anxiously gather into groups on a daily basis to participate in differentiation instruction stations. Each station allows the students to work in groups and play Integer Chess, Quizmo, Dinomath, or many of the other resources. When the timer signals transition time, via a buzzer, the students anxiously move to the next math station to experience a new game.
Both the students and I are beyond grateful for the opportunity to use these resources on a daily basis. Without your donation, we would have never been able to enjoy all of these math games. I truly was blown away with the amount of resources I was able to buy with your donation. Students from grades kindergarten to seventh grade are using these resources. Each game is exciting, thought-provoking, challenging and promotes healthy competition.
As a next step, the school will host multiple grade level competitions using the various resources during our Parent Night. I will proudly announce that the resources were donated by Chevron via Donors Choose. It will also give us a opportunity to encourage parents to purchase the same or similar resources to reinforce students' math skills outside of school hours.”
