More Diverse Titles for Diverse Readers
Funded Mar 16, 2021When the boxes arrived with our books, you would have thought it was Christmas morning. To see the joy on the kids faces that they were receiving the book they requested for the library was priceless. Each kid has since checked the book they requested out of the library. Some kids have even finished their book and passed it along to a friend to read next!
One student in particular, who has a love for history, finished Ground Zero by Alan Gratz in one night! He came in ready to discuss the events of 9/11 with me...asking where I was and how did I experience it. I loved seeing his excitement to the historical event but also to connect it to the book's narrative.
Students are excited to read and that is thanks to you. Thank you again for donating towards my classroom project of adding new, exciting, and diverse novels into the classroom library. Words can't express my appreciation for your kindness.”

Funded Oct 23, 2020Thank you again for donating towards my classroom so that I can refill and replace supplies that have been used over the course of the last school year. The students have absolutely loved the bands for their chairs being back in place and I have been able to create an interactive Sudoku board with the Astrobright paper and the lamination pages. The kids have enjoyed having this as a brain break activity when they have some down time. Without you, I wouldn't have been able to do these things for them before we moved to virtual learning. All of these supplies (and myself) are anticipating their arrival back into the building!”

Funded Jan 28, 2020Thank you so much for helping me to provide the basic needs that the students need within my classroom. It has been wonderful to be able to provide pencils for students who don't have anything to write it, tissues for students who have the sniffles, etc. The sticky bookmarks have quickly become a favorite of the students! Some kids love that it sticks to the page so that it doesn't fall out of the book when they aren't reading. Others love that they can point the bookmark directly to the word that they left off on when it is time to stop reading. I couldn't have been able to give them these vital materials without your help. Thank you again.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019It has been amazing seeing the smiles on these kids faces over the graphic novels that have arrived in our classroom. Every package was met with cheers!
The students were so excited about so many of the titles that we ended up doing 5 rounds of book raffles. They put their names on slips of paper and into a cup in order to win the chance to check the book out of the library first. It was so fun getting to see them cheer victoriously when their name was pulled from the cup.
One of the most popular graphic novels was Click, which still has a waiting list to be read. Fake Blood was another classroom favorite! Some students who are reluctant readers have been seen with a book in their hand for the first time in months.
Thank you so much for the donations and for making this project a reality. It has brought new life to our reading interests!”

Funded Oct 24, 2019It has been amazing to have the basic supplies that we need to continue to learn within our classroom. Just being able to know that we have tissues and tissues to combat the upcoming flu season has taken a weight off my shoulders so that I focus on instruction with the students. The students are absolutely loving their stylus pens to use with their iPads that we are using this year. They have also loved using the laminator sheets so that they can preserve posters and other things that we make in our classrooms. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for supplying us with the basics for our classroom.”

Funded Jun 19, 2019It has been so awesome to see the impact of having our own classroom set of Mountain of Bones by Christopher Krovatin in our classroom.
The students are absolutely loving the "zombie theme" that has started the year off! It is interesting to see just how much they have embraced it. From buying us zombie decorations to painting ceiling tiles for the reading class that depict scenes from the book, they have truly started to love this novel. It is thanks to you that we were able to bring it to them!
Again, thank you so much for donating towards this project and making it a reality for us. I cannot wait to continue to foster the love of reading to them through something that they are interested in!”

Diverse Books for Diverse Readers!
Funded Feb 28, 2019Words cannot adequately express the impact that these books have had on not only my classroom, but our middle school as a whole.
The students are reading more than I have seen before. They are finishing books so rapidly that they are asking for more. I have one student who read through the entire Amulet series. This is a graphic novel series that was included in the titles of our project. Since she loved the style of writing so much, she has started designing her own graphic novel! How cool is that?
The students are loving that the novels are reflection of their own lives. These novels are diverse, just like our students. Several students have discussed the novels with me and how they were able to relate the lessons to their own lives.
I even have waiting lists for certain novels! Let that sink in. Middle school aged students in this technology driven world are excited about reading a book. They are signing up to wait for a novel so that they can read it. I don't know how often that happens with others, but it is so refreshing to see!
Thank you for supporting this project for us. It is opening doors for students that weren't possible before. Thanks to all of your donations, those doors haven't just been opened for the students. They have been gladly entered by the kids to explore new worlds.”

Funded Mar 17, 2019We are LOVING this novel!! As a seventh grade class level, we are reading this book as an enjoyable novel study. Not only are the kids loving the suspense of the novel, but they are enjoying all of the extension activities we are doing with the novel.
As we are reading through the novel, the students are learning all about how a court case is conducted. This is a new concept that they have not had much exposure to. Yes, many have watched shows such as Law & Order, but they don't know the terminology that goes along with a court case. Learning words such as "sustained" and "overruled" have been a challenge for them. However, I overheard a conversation with two students using these words. It was so cool to hear that!
We are halfway through the novel at this point. The students are making some amazing predictions as to how the novel will end. In fact, I have one student (don't tell her this) that has the mystery solved!
Thank you again for helping us reach this goal. Without donors like you, we would not be able to do what we do!”

Mrs. Williams
Focus Is Our Goal!
Funded Feb 28, 2019Since our project has been completed, there have been many changes within our classroom. By adding more kick bands and the dry erase boards to our tables, the students have been able to increase their focus while working on assignments.
The kids absolutely love the kick bands. They loved them when they were first added to my classroom thanks to donors like you. Over time, those bands started to wear out. Thanks to your donations to this project, we were able to add new bands to our chairs. Some of these bands have low resistance for those with lower muscle control while the heavier bands are helping to build more muscle in other students.
While we love the kick bands, the white boards have been the biggest hit. Every once in a while, I leave encouraging notes for the students to start their days with. It has been so special for the students and myself, especially because they have started writing messages back. The boards have been used for brainstorming while writing, completing math homework, and studying for various tests.
Words can't describe how grateful the students and I are for the donations that you provided. Thank you for helping us to replenish our supplies and add a new adaptation that the students are seeing great success with. You are appreciated!”

Mrs. Williams

Funded Apr 16, 2018It has been about a month with our supplies from our Flexible Seating project. The impact within my classroom has been SO refreshing and encouraging. My goal when creating this project was to not only get supplies to help with providing accommodations within the classroom, but also to set up a classroom that students are excited to be in. I truly believe I have achieved that goal. I am so excited to continue to learn and continue to grow with this project. I am already looking for other needs within the classroom to provide even more these amazing kids!
I wanted to share one particular success story with you all. I have a student who has severe attention difficulties. Prior to receiving the kick bands and wobble cushions, he had a recorded independent attention span between 1 minute 30 seconds and 2 minutes 30 seconds. Now that he has these accommodations, I have recorded through data observation that his independent attention span has increased to about 4 minutes. This may not seem like a big thing, but it is HUGE for this student. And it is all thanks to donors like you!”

Mrs. Williams
