Because of the Covid Pandemic my incredible 3rd grade students at PS194 in Brooklyn have been relegated to being taught remotely from home. We are a Title l school and our students largely come from low income families. To help alleviate the isolation and help address social emotional needs I've created a series of nighttime meets at the end of the school day where students can gather together and socialize as well as engage in fun and educational activities. Some of these nights include: Talent Night, Dance Fever, Virtual Trips to places around the world, Comedy Night, Jeopardy: Students vs Teachers and one of the most popular Art Night where students are given step by step drawing lessons. This year 3rd grade has studied the life and works of many great artists including Picasso, Matisee and Jacob Lawrence. Unfortunately as inspiring as these masters are most of our students do not have the proper supplies to effectively demonstrate their creative abilities and bring to life their own interpretations of these celebrated artists. It is my hope with funding from donors choose we can successfully bring that gap.
