Bean Bag Bonanza Book Club-- Part 2!!!
Funded Aug 27, 2019This year has been an amazing journey so far, and it's just about this time of year that I see the efforts of our preparation come to life!
I've started to see that it's the small comforts that make a huge difference in the life of these kids. They have moved to a different country to find a new life--they aren't hoping for huge gifts or ponies!--they want some safety and comfort. They want a teacher that speaks some of their language. They want someone who will speak softer, slower, and laugh with them, and we've created a great place to make this happen.
I can't tell you how many times we've read our books, and sat in our comfy reading chairs, and been thankful for every moment. At this time of year, it seems especially great to be so thankful for people who give their time and effort to giving comfort to those in need.”
With gratitude,

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 8 other donors.Bean Bag Bonanza!!!!
Funded Sep 25, 2018This has been such an amazing gift for our students. Every day, we use the bean bags for fun games to increase alphabetic knowledge and literacy. We use the chairs as a 'reward' time, or for partner reading.
Because of your gift and kindness, my students have been so excited to be picked for reward reading time. Many of them have learned all their letters within a 3 month period, which is phenomenal for newcomers.
All in all, your gift has helped serve a population that is often overlooked. Thank you for sharing the power of games, comfort, and English learning with our young ones.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Doherty
A Soft Place to Learn
Funded Feb 6, 2018When my students first saw the rug, they were so excited. We had a place to sing our songs, do our dances, and be a community together. Since beginning this project, kids from other countries have made much more progress than they would have in their general education classrooms. This will have a huge impact on them as their educational careers progress. I cannot express how much it means for each of you to have given that time and energy, and a piece of yourselves. We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Doherty
