For the Love of Reading!
Funded Mar 11, 2015I think the best way to describe the impact of the project is an anecdote from the day we received the books. The students opened the new box of books in the morning. On our way to lunch, I noticed a bulge under one of my students' jackets. When I asked what he was hiding, he produced two of our new books. "I just can't wait until after lunch to read them, I'm too excited! Can I please take them outside and read them during recess? Please, please?" the student responded.
This is a perfect example of how excited the students were to read the new books you helped to provide. The students devoured them, and, as their motivation and engagement around reading increased, so did their reading levels. The students have made more than a year's worth of growth in reading, with some students making up to two years worth of growth!
Even beyond their impressive reading growth, the new books helped students cultivate a love of reading that will hopefully stay with them throughout their lives. Thank you for playing a part in their success!”

Eager Readers Need a Listening Center!
Funded Oct 27, 2014The listening centers that you all made possible have significantly impacted our classroom in a number of ways. Students each have an opportunity during the week to engage with the listening center during our reading block. It is often the students' favorite time of the week. Through their time at the listening center they are exposed to new books, build their vocabulary, practice sharing and build their love of reading. Students even request to stay in from recess in order to finish listening to a book!
The listening center is additionally used as a "cool down" option for students who are learning to regulate their emotions. When writing about why they love the listening center, multiple students said that they love it because it helps them calm down. The listening centers have contributed to more than students' academic growth, they have been influential in their personal and emotional growth as well.
Thank you for making this difference in our classroom. Our students' reading levels have skyrocketed and their love of reading is evident in everything they do.”
