Reading is essential for students to be successful in life. While some of my students have an easier time reading than others, I have students that are struggling to keep up with their peers. When I see students improve with their reading, their whole demeanor changes and their attitude toward school changes. Although all of the classrooms at my school site get funds to build their classroom library, as a Resource teacher, I do not. Also, most of their classroom libraries are for their grade level and not for what my students with reading difficulties need, books at THEIR level. The materials from Lakeshore that are being requested in this project help me to provide books for my students that are at their independent reading level. Research has shown that when children feel successful in school, they are successful in life. These books will be used specifically for my students who are struggling with reading. They will be able to check out these books to practice their reading at school, as well as home.
