Non-European History of Mathematics Elective Resources
Funded Jul 18, 2023Thank you so much for the wonderful chalk and the somewhat expensive books for my mathematics classroom. Working with other teachers we have developed both an elective about the "Non-European History of Mathematics" and ways to incorporate inclusive math history into all of our mathematics classes. Having extra copies of the excellent book allows me to give students quick and print-based access to a broad range of cultures and histories related to mathematics. It is so important, especially in these digital times, to also have printed materials available.
I work in classrooms that mainly have chalkboards, and having high quality good colored chalk available is essential. I truly appreciate the funding for the Hagaromo chalk which both writes most clearly, has a long life, and erases fully. Thank you for supporting this somewhat expensive classroom necessity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kinney
Geometry Supplies
Funded May 14, 2023Thank you so much for funding our "Geometry Supplies." The resources helped our learning tremendously.
First of all, the compasses work so well and are easy to fix when the pencils break or get too short--just put in a new pencil. Compared to the ancient more traditional compasses that I had, these are easy and always work. Thanks.
The inflatable globes work wonderfully for students to begin to see how straight lines in 3 dimensional world are not straight as one might think. We looked a little at how one finds the closest routes to two other points on the globe and students were amazed at how the "triangles" are curved. This really allows students to imagine dimensions differently and get ready for higher levels of mathematics.
The cups are just simple and fun for exploring surface area and volume of cones. Students could just slice them and open them and begin to understand the somewhat complicated seeming formula for a cone's surface area.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kinney
