Based on their state assessment scores from last year, about 80 percent of my students are partially proficient or not proficient in reading and math for fourth grade. Their reading levels range from kindergarten to fifth grade. The use of Chromebooks during our small group workstation blocks for ELA and Math will equip my students with the technology to access programs that will meet them where they are at instructionally and monitor their progress. My school is currently operating in their third year as a turnaround school. Twenty-one perfect of our students across all grade levels are on track to graduate college, based on their standardized test scores. We have adopted a curriculum called CompassLearning. According to CompassLearning, if my students complete 75 percent of their required materials that are tailored towards their instructional levels, they are 85 percent more likely to meet their growth goals for the entire year. As a turnaround school in the inner-city, it may come as no surprise that we are lacking when it comes to the resources and technology that our students need in order to get them on grade level and college ready. I am requesting Chromebooks and headphones for my students so that they will have the resources necessary in order to be able to work on CompassLearning and other educational sites during our daily workstation time. In addition to chromebooks, I am in need of an anchor chart stand-that can be used for teaching purposes. I believe that the comfy pillows will be a great addition to my library-and will allow my students to love reading!.
