In Kindergarten the carpet is a central location where most of the learning begins. Students start their day on the classroom carpet with welcome songs, sharing, and teamwork. Story time takes place on the carpet where little minds are opened the the wonderful world of literature. Students work together sharing thoughts and ideas on a classroom carpet. My students will work practice math on their whiteboards while sitting on the carpet. They will talk about their feelings and learn social skills each day there. A classroom carpet is an integral part of our day and an important piece of furniture in the classroom. Students will sit on the carpet and build a love of reading. For some the carpet is a safe and comfortable place to take a nap or rest when their lives have become overwhelming. A classroom carpet will give us a place to meet together as our classroom family.
