Serving children with significant needs requires learning to be attained by multiple methods. One of the primary focuses in my classroom is creating an environment than it nurturing and provides a safe and balanced atmosphere for new skill attainment. I am requesting funding for providing my students with 4 bean bag chairs and a large area rug which will be utilized for a energy regulation station in my classroom. These items along with various other tools for sensory regulation will comprise a specific learning area designated for the purpose of regulating student energy levels to adjust adverse behavior and increase learning. The design of the learning station will allow a student to request either verbally or non-verbally a specific time for regulating their energy state. Many of my students have difficulties identifying their energy levels and regulating their negative behaviors once they develop. Having a sensory learning station will teach my students that there are alternatives to attention seeking behavior and as a result will limit the frequency and duration of the negative behavior and allow a student to rejoin the classroom activities already in progress. Thank you for this great opportunity to share my classroom with all of you.
