Journeying With Greek Gods
Funded Dec 29, 2024Thank you for adding books from the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan as well as books about specific Greek gods to our 6th grade classroom library. These books offer numerous educational benefits that align with our school's mission to foster a love of reading and lifelong learning among our students.
Students thoroughly enjoyed reading, as a class, the first book in the Percy Jackson series, due to its captivating plot and relatable characters. The engagement drew students into the world of Greek mythology. A world, most students were unfamiliar with. This led to learning more about a specific Greek god in order to create and incorporate a new Demi-god character into the story.
By adding these books into our library, students have been able to continue on their journey alongside Percy Jackson. They have also been able to learn more about the Greek gods present in the story. As a result, students' interest in reading has improved, as they have been reading more frequently, which has also led to an improvement in their literacy skills and comprehension.”

Flexible Seating
Funded Jan 1, 2025Thank you for donating to my project. My students will be excited to use a stool that they can move around with at their seat, instead of using unyielding classroom chairs. This will help to minimize some students from getting out of their seats during instruction, to walk around the room.”

Fantasy World
Funded Mar 5, 2020I am extremely grateful for your generosity in order to purchase some fantasy genre books for my classroom for use during our Fantasy Reading Unit. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and schools going fully remote, my class was unable to use the books as our closure was sudden and the Unit began soon after we went remote. I was able, however, to conduct a read aloud during our fantasy reading lessons and use the books in that capacity. Even though students weren't able to access the books for themselves, I was still able to share the stories with them as we learned different concepts regarding the genre of fantasy.
My school is still remote, but I am hopeful that future students will be able to access these books and enjoy them the next time I teach my Fantasy Reading Unit.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020Thank you so much for your donations that enabled my students to use a computer mouse with their school laptops this year. Since the pandemic began, and learning shifted remotely, students have struggled to navigate technology and the different tasks asked of them to complete digitally.
Being able to use a computer mouse while completing assignments digitally has helped relieve some of the stress that came with the students' frustration of not being able to handle the technological tasks or the computer track pad. The use of the computer mouse has enabled students to be more confident with using technology as they copy/paste, design and create digitally.
I greatly appreciate your contribution in helping close the technological gap for my students, as well as helping them be productive while learning in a digital classroom.”

Funded Aug 31, 2018Thank you so much for your donations that enabled my students to have student planners this school year. My students are 6th graders and this is their first year at the middle school level. It is not always an easy transition for them from elementary school because they go from having 1 core teacher to having 4-6 teachers. Instead of staying in one classroom, they now travel from class to class. They are given a lot of responsibilities, and for some it becomes overwhelming.
By having planners, students have information at their fingertips in one place.
In the past, many of my students wrote homework down in their respective notebooks for their classes (as each subject comes with its own notebook). As a result, homework was forgotten, as students didn't refer back to their classroom notebooks, or they forgot their classroom notebooks and couldn't remember their assignment. Homework completion was at a very low percentage rate. Now, my students have developed the habit of writing their homework in one place-their planners. Some have admitted that the planner keeps them focused, as they know that that is the place to look for their assignments and get them done. Others use what they've written as a checklist to keep track of homework completed. Some students use the calendar as well. They record important test days, happenings at school or days off from school.
Having the planner has contributed to a higher homework completion rate this year. It has also helped the students see and experience the value of being responsible for their learning, as well as how being organized contributes to their success. These are valuable lessons that they will take with them year after year in school. I appreciate that you contributed to that experience and lesson for them.”
