1..2..3..Blast Off! Counting Is Our Rocket Fuel!
Funded Jan 8, 2017First, I would like to begin by saying thank you for your generous contributions. The students in my class were so excited the day the boxes arrived. We spent some time guessing what was in the boxes and once they were opened we spent some time figuring out how we were going to use all the materials. As I showed them each math or reading game they became more and more excited. They could not wait until everything was unpacked and put in to our Learning Center area. I introduced each game one at a time so that they would not get overwhelmed. The great thing about these items is that the students could use them independently during our morning Learning Center Time.
One of their favorite items are the dry erase paddles. I ask them questions as a whole group, they write down their answers and then show me their answers. It becomes like a little game show. They love it when I say "Everyone turn your boards". We do games shows on writing numbers, numerals and drawing sets for number identification. I give them 2 numbers and they have to write in the correct symbol of ,=. Or write down what number is 1 greater or 1 less. When it comes to phonics, I will say a sound of a letter and then they have to write that letter. Most fun is sight word writing. I will tell them a sight word and they have to write it by itself and then try to write it in a sentence. They love that! I use the magna doodles to help students who have trouble with penmanship and reusable dry erase pockets are great because they can be used over and over again and each student can be working on something that they might need extra help in.
Seeing the look of happiness on my students faces whenever they use these material makes me smile. All of these materials add to the enrichment of how the students are learning every day. I will keep thinking of new ways to interest and excite my students and the flexibility of many of these items gives me the resources to do just that. P.S. 175 is a wonderful school to work in and the principal is very generous. She makes sure that we have the necessities, and with the addition of your generous donations we were able to supplement what she provides for us. Again, thank you so very much for helping to enrich my students learning experiences every day.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Kaufman
