Funded Mar 29, 2017When I first told my students that we had received a tremendous amount of supplies for our classroom from complete strangers their faces were perplexed. Questions sprang from each student; but why? Why would random strangers want to donate to us? I explained the genuine investment of adults in the world that wish to see young people succeed. I explained that they are important, so important that people are investing their money into their futures. I opened up the boxes of crayons, markers, highlighters, paper and other supplies before them and they exploded with happiness.
For the past few years I have been attempting to create an art station for students. With limited funds and being a young, fairly new teacher, the creation station was incredibly limited. After receiving supplies from Donor's Choose, my students were so excited to begin new art projects. Students used donated colored pencils and crayons to create "Black-out Poetry" that you can see in the attached photos. Students also created "Inside your head" projects to analyze character motivation in The Crucible. These supplies should last for much of the next school year and I look forward to watching future artistic creations unfold.
As summer approaches, I plan on dedicating the rejuvenation period to creating new projects. I am going to incorporate a revision activity using your donated highlighters to help students take active roles in the editing process. Student use donated paper to begin classes with warm-up writing activities. The opportunities are truly endless when I no longer have to worry about supplies but instead can focus on teaching. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
