Classroom Cart Creates Cohesive Communities

Funded Dec 16, 2016

My students in the hospital have greatly benefited from your generosity. The pens and pencils enable to children to receive new writing utensils while in the hospital. Each child picks a bright and colorful folder to organize their work that they get to keep. The folders help the children to express themselves creatively as many of the students decorate the folders choosing from the assortment of sports, animals, nature, flowers, and other themed stickers, as an initial art project. This small reminder of the classroom makes even the high school students smile.

Other supplies that I was able to stock in my cart include the "Writing Process" folders for children who are completing writing workshop or written assignments. These folders create a step by step organization tool for students who are moving from the steps of pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing. The wheeled cart provides a great storage container for my assortment of teaching tools. It is a focal point for lessons that take place in the hospital's Child Life Playroom. This portable classroom accompanies me into some student's rooms who are not on isolation or contact precautions. My students and I can not express what a difference this equipment has made for my student's experience in Hospital Schools.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Ferrara
