In today's education field I work on critical thinking, problem solving, global awareness and self-reflection with my students. All of these are 21st century learning skills. Sadly, my students do not have constant access to high quality technology. Many schools in today's society have created 1:1 classrooms, as an urban Title I school we have not had the opportunity to do this. In these 1:1 classrooms, students are either assigned a tablet or laptop to assist them with academic learning. These models have shown that students with this opportunity have an advantage in 21st century skills.
Many of my students do not have access to technology at home, some of them do not even have access to the internet.
Knowing that most of my students do not have the same access to technology as all of their fifth grade counterparts, whether in Nashville of nationally, it is even more important to engage with technology in the classroom. If I had a set of Kindle Fire tablets, in my classroom, it would allow my students complete research in an appropriate manner, compare the quality of information found, create presentations, and use them for educational applications.
In addition to the benefits my students would receive, I would have the opportunity to move to a paperless classroom. With the current state of environmental awareness, it is important for me to use this opportunity to teach my students about climate change, recycling opportunities, and what we can do to help save our environment.
Overall, I just want to provide the access to technology that my students deserve. Please help me raise money to get a class set of Kindle Fires in order to achieve equitable access to technology.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and learn about my amazing students.
