One of the best things about teaching agriculture is the hands-on, practical life teaching opportunities we can provide for students. With less and less people having the opportunity, means or desire to go into traditional production agriculture, it is essential to provide students with knowledge and skills in alternative agriculture practices. Aquaponics is a growing practice that can provide so many benefits to students even on a small scale like this and can lead to bigger things like providing fresh vegetables to community members and more. This can also be used in multiple classes taught in the agriculture department. It may even spark a hobby or future career interest.
