Though grayscale pictures are beautiful, pictures with vibrant colors often tell a more detailed story. Color-enhanced graphs make the similarities and differences of various functions pop out at students. The TI-84 graphing calculators can make more difficult math concepts seem obvious to visual learners when exploring and comparing equations, data plots, and numerical data sets. Functions can come to life for algebra students as they graph equations to fit the designs they see and photograph in their daily lives. These tools - when made available to students - are integral to their exploration and understanding of precalculus and calculus concepts. I am moving towards a modeling approach to teaching and learning math, and I believe that these graphing calculators would allow creative projects for my students.
