True inquiry has to be mentally and physically engaging. Stimulating the minds of my English Language Learners in my science classroom is a challenge but I know that I can do it if I use models and text as much as possible. By providing opportunities for students to explore and engage, I am setting up science to be real life for them. Whether it's at the beginning, the end, or the middle of my unit, my students need to be working with their hands and reading science content on their reading level. The reading materials that I have ordered will allow my students to understand what we are talking about and allow them to write about it in their structured journals.
