We would like to purchase updated computers to engage our students in project based learning, offering more opportunities for students to take an active role in constructing knowledge in the classroom. With Chromebooks, students could build their content knowledge of Social Studies while also learning how to use technology like Google Drive to collaborate on projects with their classmates. The Chromebooks would be used primarily to access Google Classroom, create digital portfolios on Google Drive, and for students to create multimedia presentations and conduct research projects. The laptops we currently have are outdated and take a long time to load, which causes us to loose valuable classroom time on group projects. Chromebooks are quick to load because they store everything in the cloud allowing for a faster processing time than starting up a regular laptop. With Chromebooks, classwork and group projects can be completed online, reducing the amount of paper we use at school while maintaining organized, time stamped student portfolios that can be accessed online and share instantly with anyone. The resources we are requesting for our classroom will also be used to engage English language learners (ELLs) in conducting research in their home languages, to encourage bilingualism. Chromebooks will also be made available to students to complete homework assignments, in the event that students do not have access to WiFi or a computer at home.
