Funded Dec 3, 2019We are currently working on parts of a sentence: subject / predicate, direct and indirect objects, predicate adjectives and predicate nominatives, and objects of the preposition. I have found in the past that this particular mini-unit is really hard for my students to grasp. However, this knowledge is such an important step in understanding our 8th grade grammar standards. One of the reasons why it is so difficult to grasp is that this unit is highly visual. With your help, I have been able to make it hands-on. I have coupled the dry erase markers with some existing dry erase boards so that my students can write each sentence example down and then manipulate the sentences to show the parts of the sentence. Additionally, my students love doing this and this would not be possible without your generous donations. Also, I have used the card stock and colored paper to make a variety of different task cards for my students to complete on the parts of the sentence. These task cards are all fun games that completely engage them in the activity. Thank you for your donation to my project to help make this fun!
When I told my students about the project and how it was funded, they were so excited. They were also surprised that "strangers" would want to help them in their education. By funding this project, you helped adjust my students thoughts on the global community and how people want to lend a helping hand. In my classes, I did an unboxing to show off the materials and the students were so excited. They could not wait to use the dry erase markers and for the activities that I would do with the paper. It was so fun to see their faces and hear their plans for the materials. A lot of times people do not remember how middle school students are still really children, but that was evident in their faces when I opened the box and in their general excitement.
Once my students finish this mini grammar unit, we will be moving into vocabulary stations. I will be using some of the materials from this project to complete these stations like the card stock and paper. Students rotate through six stations and do different activities at each using their vocabulary words. My students really enjoy these stations because they are hands-on, which I am able to do thanks to contributions from you and they test them on their vocabulary knowledge using all the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. Thank you for your support of my classroom and my hands-on approach to teaching; it makes all the difference in making learning engaging!!”
With gratitude,
