Building a Thinking Classroom with Vertical Math Practices
Funded Sep 20, 2023I am so excited to put these materials to use in our classroom this year! Collaborating and thinking in groups will enrich our math lessons moving forward. Having the materials to display our work allows our work to be show all around the room and not restricted to a notebook page.”

Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to this project. Our sixth graders need the resources being provided to deepen their education and to enhance their learning experiences. Using books in class and experiencing classic novels will help to broaden their perspective in reading literature. Thank you for being a part of making this year the best it can be!”

Funded Jan 24, 2022The books we have received with this grant have already been a hit! Getting series that 12 year olds are interested in is no easy task. We have read some of the books as a class, others have selected them individually for in class reading and for books reports throughout the past few months. Our shelves have been cleared off and set up with our new series for easy access in our classroom library. Additionally, the class set of books will be a great gift for end of year gifts to keep kids reading through the summer so they are ready for next year!”

Headphones for All!
Funded Aug 25, 2021Giving my class the opportunity to each have their own set of headphones has been a game changer! Students can keep track of their pair and not worry about germs being shared on a daily basis. Students are able to engage in online learning where the sounds would disrupt the class when applied without headsets.
Students often have the opportunity to pace their own learning as needed and when they have the right tools to work individually on their Chrome books. We are so grateful for your donation!”

Funded May 5, 2021Giving my students their very own copy of a new book the they get to take home and keep for summer reading was priceless. Students were so excited about getting book one in a series of seven. This is exactly what I wanted to happen, for them to get hooked on book one and want to read the rest of the series as well.
So many of them had me open their book and sign a message so they could remember who gave it to them, and began reading long before we said goodbye on that last day of school. Many of them said they knew of the series on Netflix following this book series and were excited that they could read and then watch the story.”

Funded Nov 14, 2019Having Materials to make our 12 Days of Christmas unit come to life really made the experience the most it could be for my students. We had plenty of reading material to ensure multiple book studies which transported my kids into different worlds, cultures, and lessons surrounding the holidays. Being able to break into groups as well as participate as a class is how we used the books mostly. Some students chose to reread the books on their own as well to deepen their understanding. As a teacher I will be able to use this set of books for our Holiday unit for years to come with many different groups of students.”

Bouncing Around in 6th Grade
Funded Nov 21, 2019Thank you so much for helping me with this project in my classroom. They will be so grateful to have options for seating and a stable table to stand and work. My kids work hard and I love to give them choices anytime I can whether is be in work or our classroom seating.”

Second Graders Master Math!
Funded Feb 7, 2019The math materials that were donated to my class have made hands on learning so much fun for my students. As soon as we started fractions they were seriously confused on partitioning equal parts and by having the magnetic fractions to use as a visual really helped the students to understand. They love playing math games with the different types of dice and tens frames. Having quality headphones to use when working on I-ready has also gotten them excited to be on the computer again. Thank you so much for helping my students be able to experience math in a hands on way!”

Sphero Robots Come to Second Grade!
Funded Mar 30, 2017Having the Sphero Robots in our classroom has really challenged my students when it comes to technology. It is making them think about the end result they desire before starting the first step of any task. I like that it is helping them to develop the skills for thinking ahead and having a plan in place or at least a destination they are trying to reach. They have to coordinate with others when it is a group activity, and work outside the box to reach a goal.
This product is unlike any toy or device they have ever seen or used in the classroom so their natural curiosity drives them to explore the possibilities. Even simple projects such as building a bridge for the robot to drive over seems new and exciting. Without my instruction they were using tools to measure and draw out a plan first. This shows me how capable they are of thinking for themselves and that they can find ways to work together to reach the goal.
My higher students who always need an extra challenge took charge when they were put into groups to build bridges and then to build a program for the sphere. I expected this and was happy to see that they were challenged and relied on their peers to form new ideas. For my higher students we do what is called genius hour and they take the time to watch videos showing them new ways to program the robots and then have the opportunity to create their own tasks. This enables them to to work independently and allows me to see what their minds can create when no limits are set for them.
Over all my students have all been challenged, and we were able to play games with the programs built which made the activities fun for all. I cannot wait to see what my students next year will create and come up with both individually and in groups.”
