Our high school is a Title I school, meaning that many of the students are on a free or reduced lunch plan. The significance of this is that many families are not able to take advantage of or provide the technological opportunities that every student should have to help them learn how to research and explore but also to help prepare them for future careers. My students only need 6 more Chromebooks in order for our class to be 1:1 within the classroom. Currently we have 24 Chromebooks and my largest class is 30. Chromebooks do more than provide students with a platform and resources with which to learn. They also help engage students, prepare them for careers (which is particularly important as Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields continue to increase in demand) and close achievement gaps. My students are bright, curious, and deserving of these Chromebooks. By giving each student the opportunity to have their own Chromebook in class, you will be opening doors that some of these students might only ever see closed. I want my students to have every opportunity to eventually raise their economic status by believing in themselves enough that college is more than just a possibility, it is a done deal!
