I have the desire to introduce a variety of world music through the many instruments of the world, as well as multiple class sets of drums, rhythm instruments, and pitched instruments that children can either play as a class, or play individually or in small group instruction.
Through the generosity of others, I hope to bring world music into the classroom, and an interest in other cultures to my students through music. Many children in my district are sheltered by poverty and do not have a wide access to concerts, travel, or other ways to be exposed to other cultures. Through this program at Donors Choose, I hope to bring the culture to them all while incorporating music instruction that is age-appropriate for their development.
I have listed a number of items including a set of tabla drums, a class set of Rema drums which I have previously known to be good quality, and other rhythm and pitched instruments. I also would love to be able to demonstrate a brass instrument with the trumpet listed. I always teach how instruments make sound, and this would be extremely beneficial when teaching this lesson among others like jazz music. Some other things I requested, such as the dry-erase staff boards would be helpful in teaching music notes on a staff and music theory.
There is so much more to music classroom than just singing songs. There is the opportunity for a child to participate in a group, and to create with personal expression. There are numerous studies that show the correlation between higher level thinking and fine arts. Please take a moment to consider donating to my classroom, as I simply cannot provide these much-needed musical instruments and manipulatives without your help. Thank you very much.
