  • Building a Thinking Classroom

    Thank you so much for the calculators and chromebooks! My students love them and use them everyday.

    Also, because we now have a classroom set of calculators we were able to use them for the SAGE test (instead of using the ones provided on the actual test) and my students were so happy that they could use the ones you provided.

    Also, the new chromebooks allow us to have Aleks competitions and allow each student individual access to the online resources we use in class.

According to research done by Peter Liljedahl in the book "Building Thinking Classrooms," students are more likely to take risks and engage in thinking behaviors when they can work with groups on vertical, non-permanent spaces. I have experimented with this in my classes with the limited whiteboard space that I have and found it to be successful. I noticed discussions amongst students, quicker entry into the tasks, and thinking happened for a longer period of time. However, the whiteboard space I have doesn't allow for all students to engage as described because I have large class sizes. I believe that having this additional whiteboard space will improve the thinking and engagement in my classroom.
