Annie Johnopoly

Funded Dec 14, 2016

I sincerely apologize for the delay on sending this thank you to you. I must say that the resources that you provided and gifted us went a long way. The Gotham Professional Arts Academy students all of whom come from the heart of Brooklyn more specifically the Bed-Stuy area is one of the hardest hit economically in the borough; as well as our district in regards to funding receives the least. The resources you provided such as the marker, Tri-folds, scissors, etc made a project that would've felt impossible, possible! My young people did not have to worry about the cost but were able to truly focus on the task at hand.

When my young people first saw the supplies coming in... I tell it was like seeing them at Christmas! They could not believe that people they had never met would believe in them enough to donate what they needed; no question asked. My young people's hardships are heartbreaking so to have them witness that there is some good in this world through organizations like yours was restorative for them and able to build a sense of hope that this world is not that bad.

I'll project culminated near the middle of June 2017 when students presented their game boards on the book Annie John. After the presentation, students invited the school to play the various game boards as they continued to explain the connection between their game boards and the book, as well as the benefits of creating a game board that supports literacy.

As we entered the academic year of 2017-18, our young people are currently focusing on social justice and poetry. With the supplies that were gifted by you the student's are developing visual images of poems by Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks and other inspirational poets of the modern day era. These supplies have really help ease the stress of our student who financially cannot buy these supplies for themselves. This also supports our school in so many ways. We are in a low funded district supplies are always short and teachers are always need.

I greatly appreciate your support and patience. I cannot thank you enough for your donation and quite honestly saying thank you does not encompass my heart's felt appreciation for you all.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Collado
