Reading Is Fun
Funded Jan 21, 2022Thank you so much for all the wonderful items I received because of your generosity. My sweet first graders said, "It's like Christmas at school!". My students were really excited, but I was ecstatic.
This year our school made a plan to have weekly skills based focus groups. For example, students that needed help with vowel teams were in a group, students needing help with CVC words were in a group, etc. In the past reading groups were based off of what level they were reading on. I wasn't really sure how I would like the new change at first, but it turned out being the best idea ever. With your donation I was able to purchase so decodable readers which were skills based to used in my reading groups.
I have incorporated online centers for the students to complete during reading centers. A few of the students at the beginning of the year would skip over some of the centers. I purchased some bean bags to use as the fourth center, where the students are able to go back to the bean bags and read to self. They can only do this if they have completed the previous centers. They loved it and I loved that they were completing their assignments. Thank you so much for everything!”

Funded Nov 2, 2017I can't thank you enough for your generous donation. Words can't express my gratitude. This year has been the most difficult year I have had in my 17 years of teaching experience. I have several students with behavioral issues as well as 6 students that are well below grade level in math and reading. At the beginning of the year it was difficult to manage my classroom let alone have worth while learning experiences. It was very frustrating that the management techniques I had used for 16 years were not working and I felt like I was starting all over again. I needed a huge intervention and that is when I decided to include more technology in my classroom. However, I didn't have enough chrome books to help me succeed.
I only had 7 chrome books and with a class of 24 students that wasn't going to cut it. With the addition of the 5 new chrome books I have been able to have half of my class on the chrome books improving their reading and math fluency while I am able to meet with the other half of the class for instruction. Then we flip flop. I have seen huge improvements in the management of my class as well as their individual learning. I am able to have more one on one instruction with all the students, not just the lower learners. I have seen significant improvement with everyone and with one particular student that we thought would need resource services is no longer on the radar list.
This may be the hardest year I have had teaching but in the end it has been the most rewarding as well. Thank you for helping me and my students be successful!”

First Grade Techies
Funded Nov 14, 2016Thank you so much for the Pads you helped donate to my classroom. The students have been involved in improving their reading and math fact fluency. They have been using different math apps to help develop and solidify their understanding of math concepts that are being taught in the classroom. The best part is that they are having fun and are engaged. I have a little more freedom to be able to work with small groups to help those that are struggling, but also to help those that are advanced to be challenged. Thank you for supporting the education of these wonderful first graders.”
