Students in my high school engineering course have done many challenging projects such as creating a pinhole camera, testing structural rigidity of model buildings using a MyQuake, and reverse engineering of a toy or appliance of their choice to analyze how they work. For an upcoming project, I would like my students to use a MaKey MaKey kit to turn an everyday item or location of their choice into an exciting interactive experience to share with their class. They will then take this further and, with the approval of our TSTEM coordinator, we will host several small elementary school field trips where my engineering students will demonstrate engineering concepts through their MaKey MaKey demonstrations. Your donation will help to not only promote interest in STEM-related fields here in the high school, but will carry through to our entire district down to the youngest students at the elementary level. We know that technology is constantly changing and what students learn and use now in class may become obsolete within a few years, but the skills they acquire will help them to continually learn and adapt to the technological changes in our society.
