Supplies for Spectacular Students
Funded Jan 21, 2022We want to thank you so much for your generosity. I can't begin to tell you what it means to these kids to have information at their fingertips! They are sweet, hard-working, highly intelligent kids who sometimes just need a little boost, and you are all part of that for them. Again, thank you, and we will send you pictures after we get our amazing supplies to show you what we've done! Our classroom is a better place because of your awesome contribution.”

Funded Nov 5, 2018Thank you so much for the chromebooks that we received for our classroom! We have been able to have almost one Chromebook per child now, which is amazing. Student's use these chromebooks to learn how to type, and use things like Google Classroom and Google Slides. I am able to assign them tasks using Google classroom that they can write/type on and respond to. It helps keep us very organized, and it also help engage students. They love being able to do their own research online and give reports on things like animals, famous people of Utah, National Parks, Counties, Mountain Men, and more! We have been able to use amazing resources like Flipgrid, where students can record a video response, as well as Nearpod, where students can have an interactive lesson on their chromebook with their teacher. It's amazing!!
Some things that have especially excited students are Prodigy (a math website where they answer questions tailored to them, and battle each other), as well as code-breaking and technology based "escape" rooms. They have to solve puzzles and riddles with these, and it helps them grow! They also love the items mentioned above - Flipgrid and Nearpod. These are great ways that make students excited and interested in what they're learning, because it's not just someone standing at the front teaching them. They get to be creative with their assignments and responses.
I do have one student in particular who doesn't love reading. But when he can read on a chromebook, it changes everything. He loves a website called "myon", which is kind of like Netflix for books. He can find long or short books that are interesting to him, and listen to them on the Chromebook. This also can help his fluency, because he hears a good example of what reading should sound like. Thankyou so much for all you've done for our class!”

Funded Oct 19, 2017Thank you so much for the wonderful donations. In my classroom, we have leveled reading groups, and we instruct the group using several copies of the same book, which are leveled based on their skills. It has been really hard to find books that are both the appropriate level and interesting. That's why these donations have been such a gift to me. My students were losing interest and excitement in reading because the books we had weren't engaging. A lot of them were older or beat up, and much of the content was hard to relate to. I hated seeing kids lose that excitement! I wanted so much for them to feel excited and interested in reading...and not feel like it was something they just had to "get through". With these books, we have been able to have so many more discussions about characters, feelings, how they connect, and much more! They like the books, and they understand them...FINALLY!!! Thank you!!”

Funded Nov 14, 2016Thank you so much for your donation!! My students have benefited so much from the many learning and art supplies that we received. With these new guided reading books, I have been able to increase student interest, which has made it possible for my students to "read to learn"...in other words, they have been reading to develop new skills and learn about different ways of life.
In my classroom, there is a LOT of reading! We have individual reading, partner reading, small group reading, and whole class reading. Sometimes this is based off of interest, sometimes it's leveled, and sometimes I get to choose! Throughout the day, we read different stories and passages and use them to practice comprehension, critical thinking, making connections, understanding characters, and more.
Some students that have especially benefited from the new books in my classroom are my advanced readers. It was hard to find high-interest books for their particular level, but the ones that we found have been interesting and fun and also very easy to learn from.
Thank you so so much for the supplies that we have received! It has been so wonderful!”
