There's An App For That!
Funded Sep 2, 2015I would like to take this time to thank you for your most generous donation to our school library. The library is the heart of our school and students are always here. Over five hundred students come into the library weekly for diverse reasons. Students use the library for homework, research, and just a quiet place to study and avoid the craziness of the cafeteria.
The addition of five iPads is an incredible boost to the library's technology. This allows students' access to the Internet without being chained to a computer. There are many educational applications available that will help our students succeed.
Thank you again for your generous donation.”

Get Gaming!
Funded May 9, 2015We here at JBHS would like to thank you for generously funding our project 'Get gaming'. The library is an extremely active place. We see an upwards of 1000 students a week. Our students come in for a variety of reasons many academic and some non academic, but none the less they are in here working, learning, and now playing.
With the addition of these games our students will have the opportunity to learn valuable skills while having fun. Many of the games are cooperative so students will have to work together in order to achieve their goal.
Our students will get great use of these materials.”

Ready, Set, Sign in!
Funded Dec 23, 2014I would like to take this time to thank you for your most generous donation to our school library. They library is the center of our school and we receive a lot of traffic daily. Over five hundred students come into the library daily for a variety of reasons. We have students who use the library for homework, research, and just a quiet place to study and avoid the craziness of the cafeteria.
The main reason the library is used by our students is to access the computers. We are fortunate to have over 20 desk tops that the students can use to do homework, research, and check email. In order for the students to use the computers we have them sign in. Before your generous donation, students used to sign up in a notebook. This became time consuming causing long lines for students to sign up. Now with the Chrome Book it literally takes less then a minute for students to sign up.
This has had a direct impact on student learning. Students now have more time to devote to their work. Many of our students are very considerate and complete their tasks quickly allowing others to utilize the computers as well. The addition of the Chrome Book has also made my job as librarian much easier. With the creation of a sign up form I am able to track how often students sign up for the computer and for what purpose. With this data we are able to petition the school for more computers with evidence of our need.
Thank you again for your generous donation.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Kia and 2 other donors.Scan I Help You?
Funded Nov 15, 2014I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donation to the John Bowne High School Library. The color printer/scanner has been a great addition. John Bowne currently has over 3600 students enrolled and as you can imagine there are a lot of projects that need to be printed as well as documents to be scanned. Students have been able to print in the library but only in black and white. When the students discovered that we now had a color printer added to the library they were extremely happy. This allows them to give their projects and presentations the extra spark they desire. The added feature of having a scanner just makes everything better.
Students have been using the color printer feature in order to print out assignments such as images for posters. They also create a variety of brochures and pamphlets in a multitude of subjects. In math the students are able to create colored graphs and statistical presentations. As the librarian I have been able to use the color printer to create handouts and informational brochures for the library that assist both students and staff.
The scanner is a feature that has become indispensable. As a librarian I am able to scan documents and use them in lesson presentations so the entire class can see what is being referred to. The scanner has also become very valuable with our students who are applying for college. At times documents need to be sent through email and now we have the ability to digitize them.
This project has been able to increase the library usage. More students come into the library to scan or print and then stay and study or check out books. Having the proper equipment in the library really creates a hardworking environment where students are able to see their products in full color as well as digitized.
Again the students, staff, and I thank you both most sincerely.”
