You Won't Believe Your Eyes!
Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you very much for supporting our students and our school. We were so very excited when the project was funded. Our students love to work with technology and multimedia and a green screen can now add new dimension to our projects.
We will be using the green screen in our film club as well as in the elective class of multimedia. We create videos, book trailers, and presentations for assignments that will now make the process even more exciting. We can't wait to get started the creating has already started flowing.”

Funded Oct 25, 2017Thank you very much for helping fulfill this project. The students were thrilled to learn that there will be a green screen to use in the library. They love the idea that it will be accessible to all.
The students have already started making plans on the different projects and events that they want to work on. There imaginations have also gone on to include other materials in the library as well as free apps. I am looking forward to book trailers, class assignments and maybe even a full length feature film.
It is wonderful that there are people who believe in education and technology and allowing them to merge to inspire learning.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Con Edison and one other donor.BreakOut the Learning!
Funded Oct 7, 2017Thank you very much for all of the generous donations that brought this project back to life. I was sure that it would go unfunded considering it was expiring in 12 hours. To my surprise donations started pouring in and in no time this project was fully funded.
With all of the boxes, locks, and hasps we have enough materials to run multiple breakouts for our students. Within 24 hours of receiving everything we held out first breakout and it was an enormous success. The students had to solve riddles while learning about the different sections of the library. They were broken up into five color groups and each group was responsible for one lock. I will not lie I had many concerns. Working with high school students you never know how things will be received. Will they think the activity silly? Will it be to easy? To difficult? It was a HUGE success.
A couple of students commented on how much time it must have taken for me to come up with the riddles and plan the breakout. They were very proud and excited that they were able to open all of the locks.
As they were leaving they were still buzzing about how much fun class was and that they hope they would be able to do the activity again. None of this would have been possible without your support.”

Funded Jun 3, 2017Thank you so very much for your donations. I am very excited to report that the first breakout was a huge success at our library. Instead of the usual PowerPoint lesson detailing the resources in the library as well as the rules and regulations we held a scavenger breakout.
The students had to work in groups to open the locked box which intrigued them. After all who doesn't want to see whats in the box that has five padlocks on it? The searched the library for clues and during their search, and in the process of solving the clues they learned about the different sections of the library.
I am happy to report that in the 30 minutes allotted time they were able to get the box open with limited assistance from me. I never heard so much discussion and team work during an orientation. As the students were leaving the library they can be heard saying how much fun they had during class.
Thank you so very much for making learning fun again.”

Funded Sep 22, 2017Thank you very much for your donations that made our school library just a little bit more welcoming and a lot more comfortable.
The library is an active learning center. It is always filled with students completing homework, studying for tests, and playing games. Our students days are filled with activity and can be very stressful. It is wonderful that they have a place to go that is inviting and offers some small comforts of home.
As each piece was delivered and placed in the library students were exclaiming how the space was like being at home. This is what we want for our kids, to ensure that they have a place to call there own.”

No Plug Required
Funded Jul 14, 2017Thank you so very much for making this project possible. Our students work very hard in everything that they do. It is such a treat to see them come into the library and play a game with their friends. Especially, when the game is not behind a screen.
I have watch students choose games they have never hear of before and study the rule book and discuss how to play. I have rarely seen them give up before they got stated. During this time you will see them engaging in conversation, laughing and joking and just unwinding from the stresses of school.
These games are teaching our students a valuable lesson. They are learning that while education is important there is still time to have fun with friends, share some laughs, and make great memories.”

Library Laptops
Funded Dec 20, 2016Thank you very much for your generous donation to our school library. With the addition of these chromebooks we have increased the technology in our school library by one third. Already the chrombooks are one of the most popular items in the library. Our students request them daily. As I walk around the library I see them completing homework assignments, working on papers, and studying various subjects.
Our guidance department has also taken advantage of the chromebooks and are using them to help students navigate college websites in small groups. They are also using them to teach students how to access their electronic grade book and become more responsible for their learning.
Thank you so much for helping our students. They are hardworking scholars who have big dreams. With these chromebooks you have helped bridge the technology gap that some of them have.”

A Jolt of Java
Funded Dec 1, 2016Thank you so very much for your generous donation to our school and students. We can not express our gratitude adequately. Our school is fortunate enough to have students who are motivated in their education. Working with them is every teachers dream. We are always looking for new ways to challenge our students to stretch their learning.
Our AP Computer Science class is such a class. The students enter the class with little to no computer programming experience and leave, not expert coders, but well on their way to becoming one.
The addition of this text allows our students the opportunity to learn and be successful in their learning. It helps prepare them for their upcoming APCS examination. With that success this gives them the encouragement to continue in the field.
It is because of donors such as yourself that special programs are available to to the youth of today. Thank you again for your generosity and insuring that this program continues to grow in our school.”

Mega Manga
Funded May 21, 2016Thank you so much for your generous donations that allowed our school library to acquire over forty new manga titles. Our school is filled with intelligent hard working young people. They spend a majority of their time studying and working on class and homework assignments. As the librarian I see them in the library often but do not see them pick up a book just for pleasure as often as they should, most of the time they are there for a project that they are working on. When I have asked them why they don't check our more books for pleasure their replies have been "There just isn't enough time."
These students did not get into our high school by chance. They worked hard all though their school career, but not only did they work hard, they had to be readers. These are the kids who in their spare time you would find them sitting in a corner with a book in hand reading, and a stack of others waiting to be read. The addition of the manga to our collection will now allow our students to pick up their pleasure reading habits again. While some may scoff at manga due to their format and illustrations calling it a glorified comic book the stories are complex, as well as their vocabulary and themes. Many of the manga are serials and have students coming back for more. Because of their format students are able to read them quickly and not feel guilty because they aren't studying.
The addition of these titles has double our manga collection and while the books arrived at the tail end of the school year they already had the students buzzing. I am looking forward to the discussions that these books will bring to the library.”

Funded Jul 15, 2016Thank you very much for your generous donations in support of our school. We are truly grateful for the funding towards out athletic program. Here at THHS we strive for success in all areas of our education including athletics. With the addition of the tennis nets and rackets we will continue to practice in order to perform to our best abilities. The athletics department works diligently so that we can continually improve.
The students were very excited when they first heard about the equipment. They are now in the process of organizing a match-up between the grades. They are also thinking about an after-school competition with the teachers.
With support of the community and generous donors as yourself you have helped our school and our students continue to strive for success.”
