Please Help Recess Shoot for a Hoop!

We can't thank you enough for your amazingly generous donation! We were able to purchase a basketball net for our recess yard!
Before we were able to have a basketball net, recess was (as quoted by a first grader) "not fun!"Our recess yard was just a yard of pavement. Students would run around out of boredom and usually end up getting minor injuries.
Now students are forming teams, working together, and enjoying the sport!
We transformed the yard this summer to promote socialized recess. A few of us teachers came in and painted lines in the yard so we could have boundaries for different activities. The students LOVE basketball! It's our students' most popular choice!

Remember recess? Recess is a needed time for students to unwind, get out some energy, and learn much needed life skills of unstructured play. Currently our K-8 recess yard is just pavement. We are located in a high poverty section of Philadelphia where students don’t have many options for safe play areas outside of school. We are looking to add a basketball net so students can play, socialize, and look forward to interacting with each other. They can learn turn taking and problem solving skills. Most importantly, they can have a brain break that will allow them to get more out of our daily enriched curriculum!
