I am a school librarian who wants to try to put the love of reading into all of my student's life. Students should have the opportunity to come into the library, find a book that they want to read and have time to start that book before they go back to the classroom of curricular and required instruction. Student's time spent in the library should be welcoming, safe, imaginative and inviting. Sometimes it is hard to capture the value of the library with reluctant readers when you have a typical school library with open floor plan, hard chairs and no quiet reading space. I want to make sure that ALL of my students feel welcome and know that this is a comfortable, quiet and safe space. The environment for my readers should be a warm and soft setting where the distractions of the day are held at bay if not just for a few moments to allow their minds to transcend into the pages of a good book.
