These materials will help my students master basic reading and writing skills. They will also help my students improve their mathematical literacy. The number bingo and alphabet bingo games will help my English language learners who have never been in an educational setting learn the alphabet and basic numerical skills. The rug is to provide a clean and welcoming environment for the students, where they spend most of their day. The rug I have in my classroom is stained and soiled from past accidents and cannot be properly cleaned; the school does not have the budget to replace it for me. The books are necessary to introduce my students to basic stories (fairy tales, etc.) that most children know as second nature, but my students have not been exposed to because of the lack of education, language skills and literary tools in their homes. My students are mostly first generation Americans and are from a very low income area, and these materials will help them understand that their fellow citizens value their education and success. They can use these materials to supplement the daily lessons and improve their basic skills. These materials are routinely found in the schools and homes of more affluent students, but my students do not have access to them, even at school.
