When working in the inner city, I have prided myself on exposing my students to a wide variety of sports and activities, with the goal being to help them see that there are more sports than the ones that they are exposed to in their neighborhood. In doing so, as my students get older and move on to high school it is my hope that those sports that were planted as elementary students will blossom when they are high school students playing for their high school team. The ultimate dream for me is for them to receive an athletic scholarship in a sport that they were introduced to in my class. If you saw the project title, I hope you would see that my phys ed class is more than just rolling out the ball. In my class I want my students to develop great team building skills, as well as promote lifelong fitness. In my classroom my students do not look at it as gym, but rather physical education. We need sack potato hop sack sets, cone flow markers, hand sanitizer and tissues that will help them be exposed to different sports, as well as materials that will help with their team building skills, while reminding them they are in a safe and welcoming environment.
