  • For the Love of Reading

    Funded Nov 18, 2024

The books you have donated are being loved by my classroom. We will use the books during our small group time. Independent readers will read on their own or to a busy reader. I will also read with struggling readers and give them an opportunity to practice their reading skills while I support.

In my classroom students find any opportunity to read and explore books. Students have time during the day to read independently or with a listening buddy. All of my students are enjoying the books and are excited to read about their favorite characters.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gamino

  • Enchanted Library

    Funded Jan 23, 2024

I am currently using the small decodable books during my small group. Students come to my kidney table and practice a specific spelling pattern that the books targets. It makes reading more accessible for them when we focus on one pattern and read books that use words with those specific patterns. The books are helpful because the graphics are appealing to children and also include an actual storyline that makes asking and answering questions easier.

We also received regular reading books that focus on characters that my students know. One example is Biscuit. Students recognize the character and enjoy reading books about him. The books are also engaging because some are early readers and are accessible to students who are still mastering reading. Students' are able to read books independtly or with support and work towards a Reading medal. Students earn points from reading books, and they collect them to earn a Reading medal. This encourages more desire for reading.

I have English Learners who enjoy reading Biscuit books and are now excited to become stronger readers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gamino

  • Watson, Can You Hear Me?

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

We are very grateful for your generous donations. We were able to order Sony headphones that are sturdy and comfortable. Students use headphones for a big part of their day to work on independent practice, so they need something comfortable. The cushion on the headphones allows them to wear them for a prolong amount of time.

My students are most excited about the comfort. They like that their headphones do not pull their hair out or hurt their ears. They also enjoy listening to clear sound.

Students sensitive to sound have shown the most appreciation for the headphones. They like that they can hear clearly without having to have the sound turned on too high. They are able to work independently and can listen to directions and complete all their work. We thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gamino

My students will use these materials to help support the learning they do during core lessons. We currently attach some kind of art to our Social Studies, Science, Social Emotional Learning, and Writing. Currently, our students have access to crayons and markers but do not have access to other types of art supplies. We are a Title I-funded school and have a limited amount of funding. One way we will utilize the supplies will be for writing. We will read an informational text or a fictional story. After reading, students will write a prompt discussing the main idea, an example of a story would be Animals and their Habitats. Students will write a short paragraph discussing the main idea of the text. Once students have completed their final draft they will draw a coral reef to go along with their writing. They could use paint or pastel colors to bring their art piece to life. Students have become excited about school since we've incorporated art to my lessons. They have not attended school since mid Kindergarten due to the pandemic, and really struggled to get used to school routines. I am hopeful that continuing to include art as part of our lessons will help promote learning.
