For the Love of Reading
Funded Nov 18, 2024The books you have donated are being loved by my classroom. We will use the books during our small group time. Independent readers will read on their own or to a busy reader. I will also read with struggling readers and give them an opportunity to practice their reading skills while I support.
In my classroom students find any opportunity to read and explore books. Students have time during the day to read independently or with a listening buddy. All of my students are enjoying the books and are excited to read about their favorite characters.”

Funded Jan 23, 2024I am currently using the small decodable books during my small group. Students come to my kidney table and practice a specific spelling pattern that the books targets. It makes reading more accessible for them when we focus on one pattern and read books that use words with those specific patterns. The books are helpful because the graphics are appealing to children and also include an actual storyline that makes asking and answering questions easier.
We also received regular reading books that focus on characters that my students know. One example is Biscuit. Students recognize the character and enjoy reading books about him. The books are also engaging because some are early readers and are accessible to students who are still mastering reading. Students' are able to read books independtly or with support and work towards a Reading medal. Students earn points from reading books, and they collect them to earn a Reading medal. This encourages more desire for reading.
I have English Learners who enjoy reading Biscuit books and are now excited to become stronger readers.”

Funded Sep 11, 2023We are very grateful for your generous donations. We were able to order Sony headphones that are sturdy and comfortable. Students use headphones for a big part of their day to work on independent practice, so they need something comfortable. The cushion on the headphones allows them to wear them for a prolong amount of time.
My students are most excited about the comfort. They like that their headphones do not pull their hair out or hurt their ears. They also enjoy listening to clear sound.
Students sensitive to sound have shown the most appreciation for the headphones. They like that they can hear clearly without having to have the sound turned on too high. They are able to work independently and can listen to directions and complete all their work. We thank you!”
